When I drive alone, I often like to turn my car radio to AM radio and listen to the sound change between stations as I drive. It creates a layered blend of wildly different broadcasts shrouded in static.

It is a live mix of sounds that change as you literally change locations and feels like a improvised, personal experience, even though the programming is carefully created by someone, somewhere.

For this tape, I recorded the radio broadcasts as I drove (the song lengths are the actual time of each trip) and then manipulated them later. The original sounds range from evangelical broadcasts to Spanish-language radio to Christian rap to financial advice to sports updates.

The indefinable voices and overlapping sounds remind me of trying to go to sleep while anxiety loops through your brain. Half-remembered conversations get processed and background noise fills the gaps.

Turn it up and obliterate your senses.
